We hardly
sacrifice, yet we want others to sacrifice for us. Even God sacrificed his only
begotten son, so that the world may be saved. Today, we are being reminded to
sacrifice those things we treasurer most in order to serve God, cause we stand
a danger of losing focus of our object of praise.
The reason we do
not give is because we are afraid to lose what we already have in hand. It is
as if we are asking can I really give up this. What if I do not get anything in
return? We are so concerned about our tomorrow, but God is saying that which we
are holding is just a fraction of what he can do for us. When he asks us to
give him or when we are confronted with a situation where we have to give, we
hold back because of the fear of the unknown, our failure to trust God with the
move, to trust that since he takes care of everything else on this planet he
wll be able to take care of our needs!
Abraham was well
aware of the promise God had made him and the covenant they had entered into
that when God said give me your son as a sacrifice, though pained, he was
compelled to do it because he had the faith that God would come through for
him, but his movement was such that even if he does not, he knows better why
this had to happen for the fulfilment of his dream - a huge family on earth.
The problem you
have is you do not want to give back to God what he has given you. You feel you
are at a huge loss, but what is it that God is saying - that hope in him does
not disappoint. Abraham went holding his son, but he came back from the
mountain a blessed man. God took Jesus to the cross of Calvary but after that
victorious death and subsequent resurrection, the face of earth has never been
the same.
The devil has
risen with much viciousness to try and lure as many as possible away from the
blood and body of Christ, through deceiving and instilling fear in you.
How many
negative voices have drowned and dimmed the still, silent voice of God telling
you to do right? We have so many excuses, we have so many words to justify our
actions, but perhaps, if we were to step back and follow the still voice within
us, then we would be able to conquer the devil in our own space.
God loves
sacrifices because he knows what is on the other end. Sacrificial living is
when you lose your life for Christ, and God sees the heart that forsakes all to
pursue God’s work alone. That inspires him. That life is precious to him.
